Joy.

It can feel fleeting, especially at times like this, when the world around us seems increasingly combative.

Last week, I wrote about the creative spark that led me to build – and can help you too. Whether you’re building a coalition of supporters or delivering on a personal passion, remember to make sure that joy is part of it.

There’s a power to joy that often gets overlooked – and maybe that’s because most of us don’t realize how deeply it affects our health and wellbeing mentally and physically.

Joy is about more than just having a positive mindset.

Mentally, it helps to maintain a sense of calm and drives motivation. It tangibly can help in making better decisions. Physically, it can lead to increased energy, improvements in sleep, weight management, and strengthening our immune systems.

I don’t know about you, but I could definitely use some of that. And we could all use a bit more joy right now.

So, here are four ways I focus on finding and feeling more joy.

👉🏽 I remind myself that I have the power to decide how I tap into joy. What is it that always energizes me? How do I plug into that right now and more often?

👉🏽 I consider the joy within. How am I continually nurturing a growth mindset – one that fosters a culture of abundance, not one of scarcity? How does this affect my daily decisions?

👉🏽 I focus on simplicity, which can be tough in a world that seems more and more complex. What areas of my work could be simplified? How can I streamline the way I approach things in life?

👉🏽 I try to pace myself. This one is probably the hardest for me. I’ve always been competitive – both with others and with myself, aiming to beat my own personal bests. How can I reframe my wins and reset timelines to find more joy?

It’s an ongoing process, and I can’t say I’ve fully mastered it. I don’t know if I ever will.

What I do know is that it’s worth the energy to keep at it. It creates a feedback loop that repeats and refuels, to help keep me going and growing. And hopefully, it helps you too.
