“Nobody will fight for you like you can fight for yourself.” – Linda Sarsour

I’ve found myself having multiple conversations lately where I’m hearing about people’s disappointment in themselves.

Whether it’s the fatigue from a rapidly shifting economic outlook affecting our work, a languishing job market, or a slow trajectory toward personal goals – rather than an accelerated path – we’re collectively feeling the weight on our shoulders.

It’s easy to compare ourselves to others who seem to be moving faster – getting that exclusive access, landing that job, or winning that award.

Remember this though: Each step forward is a step closer to where you want to be.

👉🏽 Slow can be steady.

In fact, there’s a mnemonic that just might help you more clearly see how close you’re getting to that destination – and it can motivate you to get there at pace, with steady footing.

STEP.

Share To Enhance Progress.

Here’s how it works:

By sharing your goals and your process in getting there, you activate something in yourself and in others.

👉🏽 Stating your goal openly drives accountability. By putting it out there, you’re enabling others to help hold you accountable. It’s a reminder that you’re not in this alone.

👉🏽 Transparently showcasing where you are on your path and what’s coming next engenders trust through visibility. It’s a reminder that community is about giving and getting in return.

👉🏽 Engaging others to seek out their feedback helps to validate your ideas. It’s a reminder that the ones with you at the beginning are among your strongest advocates.

👉🏽 Publicly building creates momentum that fuels you, with each milestone propelling you to the next one. It’s a reminder that the journey is just as important as the destination.

The fact is that most of us have a tendency to be our own worst critics.

If we’re going to insist on that, isn’t it only fair that we also be our own best advocates?

In the last few newsletters, I’ve included a quick poll to get some human intelligence (HI!) from readers like you. I’ve gotten great feedback, and as this newsletter and the community evolves, I’m looking to hear from you even more. So take a minute and let me know by selecting one of the options below – and if what you have in mind isn’t listed, just send a note to [email protected] to let me know.
