“When you enter into a storm, keep walking. If you stop, the dust settles on you and you become like a statue, unable to move. But if you keep going, you'll make it through.” – Salma Hayek

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about momentum. Especially in what feels like we’re in a storm of sorts right about now.

But what does momentum really look like – in your personal life or at work every day?

When I wrote about upside down thinking last week, I described how challenging norms can spark real transformation.

What happens after that bold idea or vision? Between vision and impact lies a quieter force: consistent action.

Big wins rarely happen overnight. More often, they’re the result of daily, deliberate decisions. It’s those small, unglamorous steps that compound over time.

Think about it:

👉🏽 The book that changed an industry? Written one page at a time.

👉🏽 The breakthrough product? Refined through iterations that nobody praised until it launched.

👉🏽 The leader who reshaped a culture? Showed up, even on days that nobody was watching.

I wish I’d understood this earlier in my career.

I always found myself looking ahead toward what’s next but feeling like maybe I was moving too slowly or that the hill to climb felt too steep.

Progress felt hard to see – and even harder to feel and achieve.

What I’ve learned since then is that staying steady and keeping one foot in front of the other really does help get you there.

It can feel like you’re not moving much, but you are.

You’re moving forward through the storm, and you’re not letting that dust settle on you – even when it feels like you’re in quicksand.

Small steps create momentum.

They’re how you get there. They’re how you:

👉🏽 Build trust. With yourself and others, by honoring commitments.

👉🏽 Refine your craft. Through dedicated practice, not just theory.

👉🏽 Outlast doubters. Because progress, however incremental, speaks louder than opinions.

I feel that last one so deeply, as I continue to be told that what I’m aiming for is too ambitious or that it can’t be done.

Really?

This week, I’m reflecting on the micro-moments that led to macro shifts:

It was the 10-minute check-in that realigned a team.

It was the handwritten note that deepened a relationship.

It was the single moment of clarity that led to a product innovation still celebrated and consistently applied today.

So, now it’s your turn.

What’s one small action you can take daily to move closer to your vision? Start there. Celebrate where and how you show up – not just where you end up.

Because the people who change things aren’t just the ones with bold ideas. They’re the ones who keep going.

Reply here and tell me: What’s a small step that’s made a big difference for you? I’ll share the best ones in next week’s edition.
