In Community #5: Speaking up and speaking out
Last week’s theme was content and how we can work behind the scenes to make sure we’re perceived the way we should be – fully as ourselves.
What’s on my mind this week is getting us front and center – and out there to speak our minds. Loudly and clearly.
I’m not just saying this for myself or as an ask of other melanated folks. It has to be all of us looking to build something better than what we have today.
Let’s face it – we need real change. The solutions that worked for businesses haven’t panned out in a way that’s left us feeling better off.
It’s easy to feel isolated right now. At work, we’re being asked to do more with less. To go big or risk having to go home amidst even more layoffs. And a humanitarian crisis abroad that’s affecting our safety directly at home.
It can feel scary to push for change.
But that’s where I’m taking inspiration from leaders taking action today – whether it’s taking risks to go out on your own, to use social media to get the word out, or to come together with strength in numbers advocating for us.
In the spirit of speaking out, I also want to hear more from you directly. We’re on issue #5 of In Community. What’s resonating with you so far? What do you want to hear about or see that you haven’t – or that doesn’t show up elsewhere but deserves to be seen? Reach out to let me know.
