π₯ And now, for your weekly spark.
Ripple.
Years ago, I got a job opportunity that changed the trajectory of my career. At the time, I thought the opportunity itself, an achievement that felt so big to me, was the story.
It wasn't.
That job became nearly a decade of my life at Johnson & Johnson. I went on to build businesses there, win awards for the company, drive acquisitions of other companies, hire partners and agencies, and become involved in recruiting people into the organization myself.
That led to other roles. Those roles led to other opportunities. And eventually, all of those experiences led me to start Hue.
That means that one opportunity I received years ago is now connected to the opportunities I'm able to create for other people today.
That's a pretty wild thing to think about. The fact is that when someone opens a door for you, you usually don't know where that door leads.
You don't know who you'll meet on the other side, what you'll build, what you'll learn, or who you'll eventually hire, introduce, mentor, collab with, or bring into a room because of what happened next.
ππ½ The impact of an opportunity can extend far beyond the person who receives it.
I've seen that play out throughout my career.
A hiring decision can change someone's trajectory. An introduction can put someone in front of the person who changes their business. A conversation can give someone the confidence to pursue an idea they've been sitting on.
Importantly, a seat at the table can eventually turn into someone else getting a seat at the table. Sometimes itβs an expansion of the table itself. You might not even realize you've been part of the ripple effect until years later.
That's what I've been thinking about as we've brought together the inaugural Wellth 30.
The point isn't just that these are successful people, although they are. What interested me was something bigger:
What becomes possible because of their work?
Who gets funded? What gets built? What gets celebrated? Who gets invited in? Who sees a different path because someone else went first?
That's the standard I wanted Wellth 30 to recognize: leaders, founders, and creators whose work expands what's possible for the people, communities, and industries around them.
Bringing this group together in New York this week made that idea feel very real: like-minded people influencing where attention, capital and opportunity go. Put them together, and the interesting part isn't just whoβs in the room.
It's what might happen because they were in the room together.
That's a ripple too.
π The Ripple Effect
When you're deciding whether to open a door, make an introduction, hire someone, bring someone into a room or give an idea a chance, don't only think about the immediate outcome. Ask yourself:
ππ½ What could this make possible?
ππ½ Who else could benefit?
ππ½ What might this set in motion?
You can't predict the answer, and that's the point.
The opportunity I got wasn't the end of my story. It became part of the story other people are living now.
And maybe some of the opportunities we're creating today will do the same.
π₯ You may never see the ripple. Start it anyway.
Meet the Inaugural Wellth 30
Introducing the Wellth 30, a new platform that recognizes people whose work reaches far beyond what they do day to dayβtheyβre shaping how we work, what we value, what gets built, and who gets to participate.
The Wellth 30 would not be possible without the support of our partners Tumblr, Project Management Institute, EDO, and Kindle Scribe.
Meet the honorees, including executives, founders, and creators selected for meaningful impact across business, leadership, community, and culture.
ππ½ Their work expands whatβs possible for the people, communities, and industries around them.
