Is it executive dysfunction? In Community #30
Your weekly boost of positive energy centering BIPOC
Sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Sometimes getting through it is the hardest part.
Sometimes all of it is the hardest.
Let’s talk about executive dysfunction. No, I’m not talking about your company’s leadership team – although if that’s what came to mind, definitely reply to let me know (👀 don’t worry – we’re in the circle of trust).
Last week, I wrote about control, along with what to do when we don’t have it. What happens when what we see and feel is chaos instead? It may not be what you think it is.
Executive dysfunction disrupts our ability to manage thoughts, emotions, and actions. Those of us with ADHD may feel this deeply without always knowing how to articulate it.
Sometimes articulating it is the hardest part.
In our always-on, always-pressured, always-all-things-all-ways-all-the-time world, the internal chaos can take over.
👉🏽 Have you found yourself struggling to meet deadlines?
👉🏽 Have you consistently forgotten seemingly simple things?
👉🏽 Have you fallen off track with your project management at work?
If you’re nodding along, it’s not just you. And if you’re not, does this sound like someone you know? We’ve seen a continued rise in mental health concerns, with one poll showing that 90% of adults believe there’s a mental health crisis in the US today.
It can manifest in multiple behaviors, and it affects other elements of our overall health and wellbeing, both at home and at work.
Take this as an opportunity to pause and consider how this affects you or those around you.
It’s worth your attention, especially among all the ideas, people, and things competing for that attention. Start off by hearing what Trevor Noah has to say about it in this week’s Need to Know, followed by some moments of joy in the stories worth paying attention to this week.
