In Community #15: Sowing the seeds for our growth

Did you catch the Grammys last weekend?
This year's show marked incredible talent across backgrounds. SZA and Andre 3000 took home multiple trophies, and artists like Zakir Hussain, Peso Pluma, and Karol G made history with their wins.
From Trevor Noah’s opening to unlikely mashups by Tracy Chapman and Luke Combs, it gave us moments that reminded us that music is one of those areas where we can still come together despite daily differences.
And one speech by a first-time winner – Victoria Monet – gave us another reminder: Planting a seed today can lead to growth tomorrow.
Last week, I wrote about building and nurturing your personal board of directors. This week, I’m thinking about how Monet’s Best New Artist acceptance called out the perseverance behind her pursuit – and it also called out the people who helped along the way.
“I liken myself to a plant, who was planted…My roots have been growing underneath ground, unseen for so long. I feel like today, I’m sprouting, finally above ground.”
What seeds have you planted that have yet to sprout? How are you nourishing your own growth and nurturing your journey toward your own goals?
What if we viewed our work as nourishing and nurturing toward our ultimate destination?
Take a moment to recognize your own value – and the value of the work you're putting in every day. Consider these three E’s:
👉🏽 Environment: We can't grow if our environment doesn't support that growth. Create a personal board to be that support system to remind you of your potential.
👉🏽 Energy: Change your perspective and stay positive. It's easy to compare ourselves to others who seem to be getting to their goals faster or seemingly easier – but don't be taken in by that idea. Be the source of nutrients for your goals.
👉🏽 Empathy: Identify your strengths and pitfalls. Understand how they can aid or hinder your progress. But give yourself grace – it's all too easy to be too hard on ourselves.
Remember: Nobody knows better than you what you're capable of achieving.
