💡 Reminder: Your journey is yours and no one else’s.
Do you know someone who needs to hear this today?
Last week, I wrote about how you can recognize your own power as an individual. This week, it’s worth remembering that you get to define your own timeline for yourself as well.
Sure, we all have goals, but comparing yourself to others can actually detract from reaching your goals. It can drive self-doubt, emphasize unrealistic metrics, and contribute to a lack of clarity.
Clarity.
Wouldn’t it be great to just have more clarity sometimes? I’ve faced moments in my life – and especially at key moments in my career – when I would’ve loved to get clarity. If only someone had told me then that having the right support system of people around me would be the key to unlocking it.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but I needed a coach to help me navigate, along with a personal board of directors. I’ll write more about the board of directors in a future update, but for now let’s focus on the coach.
👉🏽 How often have we had coaches in our lives? Whether they were coaching our team in school, helping us to learn a new skill, or holding us accountable to hit our training goals, it always felt like a no-brainer.
👉🏽 So why do we tend to hesitate so much when it comes to coaching in our careers? Why don’t we normalize putting energy into someone who’s been there and done that to guide us forward?
I didn’t do this until more than a decade and a half into my career, after multiple pivots without a guide. But it made all the difference when I did. I finally started to get real clarity.
It’s time to recognize that we define our own journeys – and we owe it to ourselves to manage our own timelines with clarity and compassion for ourselves.
