🔥 Bye bye Brat Summer: In Community #44

Your weekly boost of positive energy centering BIPOC

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been seeing, hearing, and feeling Brat Summer the past few months. You’re probably also feeling a shift in energy as it comes to an end.

Last week, I wrote about resilience and how to propel yourself forward. The five-step framework I used has consistently helped me bounce back from challenges faster and stronger, both at home and at work.

As we prep to propel forward into another season – especially as we’re closing out the year in a few months – I can’t help but think about another shift that comes as the seasons change: routine.

Routine, much like resilience, has an element of repetition to it. It can seem humdrum, but its anchoring effect is what keeps us grounded and focused on what’s ahead of us.

Over the past several weeks, I’ve found myself letting my routine go instead of keeping its flow. There are moments where that lack of flow has made it tougher to stay on task.

It’s made it feel like progress is slower than it should be or that I’m veering off a core path. I have to remind myself that those seemingly small anchor points have a stronger hold on us than we often realize – and holding on to them will help us get farther, faster.

👉🏽 Here’s the good news for me and for you: Wherever you are in that routine or the forward motion it allows you to have, you’ve got this.

As the fall arrives, new routines can set in, so take this as an opportunity to reset.

It can feel like you’re beating a drum over and over again, but there’s a steadiness in a drumbeat. This week’s Need to Know has some inspiration to show how progress can be slower than we’d like, but it’s still positive momentum.

Stay steady. Like I said, you’ve got this.
